International Chefs Day offers chefs from around the globe a unique opportunity to create a difference in their local communities through teaching kids that healthy eating can be fun and exciting. This annual educational event has been becoming increasingly successful due to the energy, time, and passion given from Worldchefs and Nestlé Professional teams. This year a special toolkit has been developed, designed specifically for remote learning. In 2019, the event doubled the previous year’s numbers with more than 69 000 children and more than 1800 chefs taking part in the annual event.
“The theme, Healthy Food for the Future, came at the right time.” said International Chefs Day Chair, Vanessa Marquis. “It is important to leverage these themes to inform children and adults so they will take in this theme to heart. In order to ensure a healthy planet for future generations, it is vital that we start teaching our children about the impact the production and the consumption of food have on the environment.”
Reinold Jakobi, Head of Nestlé Professional’s Strategic Business Unit based in Vevey, Switzerland shared: “For many years, we have been committed to supporting International Chefs Day as an opportunity to educate and demonstrate to youth around the world that healthy eating can be fun. We recognize the increasingly pivotal role that chefs around the world play in providing healthier meals to children, helping them to eat better, firmly establishing healthy food habits and diets as they grow up.”
This year’s International Chefs Day again partners with Nestlé for Healthier Kids, a global initiative to help 50 million children live healthier lives by 2030. Launched in 2018, this project includes a commitment to accelerate the transformation of Nestlé’s food and beverage portfolio worldwide. That includes adding even more fruits, vegetables, fiber-rich grains and micronutrients, as well as continuing to reduce sugars, salt and saturated fats. It also includes simpler ingredients list and more organic, plant-based and natural options.
