Worldchefs Academy offers young chefs first step into food service

Inspiring young chefs to kickstart their careers with free online courses.

Aspiring chefs from any background or skill level can sign up to a free online chef course to help kickstart their career in the food service sector.

Nestlé Professional and Worldchefs, the World Association of Chefs Societies, teamed up in 2018 to create the Worldchefs Academy – an online portal with access to culinary professional essentials, including the free online or mobile app Pre-Commis Chef course.

Once successfully completed, chefs will receive the Pre-Commis Chef and Culinary Foundations certificates. To date, more than 19,000 chefs have graduated – including over 2,000 graduating last year alone

The program offers budding chefs who may not have the means, mobility or flexibility to attend full-time culinary school an introduction to culinary subjects and qualifications.

It covers key topics, such as culinary professionalism, food service operations, culinary theory, food hygiene, sanitation, basic cooking and culinary nutrition.

Now available in seven languages – including Arabic, English, German, Italian, Mandarin, Portuguese and Spanish – it can be followed either as a complete curriculum or individual lessons that complement other courses or an in-service, kitchen apprenticeship.

The Pre-Commis Chef course also links to Worldchefs certification opportunities. “The Worldchefs Academy is a solid and comprehensive base to learn the basics before entering a professional kitchen,” explained Emmanuel Lorieux, Nestlé Professional Global Chef. “Extending its availability in different languages means that we can reach more culinary talent across the globe.”
