Celebrating the 2023 World Youth Skills Day
At Nestlé Professional, our actions are rooted in our undeterred optimism about the future of food service.
We believe in the power of young people to shape the future of the food service industry. That's why we're more committed than ever to providing them with the tools and skills they need to succeed.
On this Youth Skills Day, we're excited to share three examples of the incredible work our teams around the world are doing to enable youth development programs specifically aimed at the food service industry.
First, we're celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Toque d'Or® hospitality competition hosted by Nestlé Professional UK. This prestigious competition equips young people with the latest skills and expertise necessary to thrive in today's fast-paced industry.
Over 400 students applied this year, and after a grueling competition, two winners took home the coveted title of champions during the Grand Finals Week. Read more
In Australia, Nestlé Professional has been giving young chefs the opportunity to kick start their careers for 58 years through the Nestlé Golden Chef's Hat Award competition.
This culinary competition provides a platform for emerging talent to benchmark themselves against their peers, learn from leading industry experts, and experience the opportunity of a lifetime. Over 8,000 young chefs have participated since inception, and in September, the top 12 finalists will go head-to-head at Fine Food Australia in Sydney, competing for the prestigious Golden Chef of the Year title. Finally, Nestlé Professional Sri Lanka, in collaboration with Chef's Guild of Lanka, held an island-wide culinary competition, Nestlé Golden Chef's Hat Competition, to nurture new talent in the hospitality industry.
The company partnered with the Swiss Hotel Management Academy which is among the top 3 hospitality schools in the world, with A. Baur & Co. (Pvt) Ltd. being its local affiliation partner. In January, two scholarships were awarded to the winners of the Nestlé Golden Chefs’ Hat Competition, with a further two scholarships awarded to two outstanding students at The Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM).
