Nestlé achievements
- Nestlé UK reduced waste from our factories to landfill by over 50% in 2009 vs. 2008.
- Nestlé UK works to reduce waste from our offices through recycling programmes across all our sites.
- Porto factory in Portugal (which produces a range of roast and ground coffee products) compresses and transforms coffee waste such as husks and leaves to use it for soil enrichment.
- Nestlé’s factory in Girvan, Scotland is the first Nestlé UK factory to achieve our 2015 target of zero waste sent to landfill.
- Girvan’s achievement of “Zero Waste to Landfill” from June 2010 was audited and verified by the independent auditors, Bureau Veritas.
- Inspired by household recycling, the factory provided skips into which different types of waste could be segregated including wood, plastics, metals and canteen waste. Anything that can’t be recycled is sent to an energy-from-waste recovery plant and the resulting energy is used as a heat source.
