Top tips
- Save energy by switching off appliances at the socket rather than leaving them on standby.
- Insulate your buildings thoroughly – everything from cavity wall insulation, to lagging tanks and pipes. Double glazing windows also help to conserve heat energy through the colder months, as well as saving you money.
- Choose energy efficient appliances when it is time to replace your old ones.
- Remember not to leave appliances like mobile phones or laptops on charge unnecessarily.
- Ten to twenty five per cent of a home's heat is lost through windows. Close all curtains and blinds at night to keep your house warm.
- Swap your light bulbs for energy saving bulbs. If everyone in the UK installed just one energy saving bulb, we would save enough CO² to fill the Albert Hall over 1,900 times.
- Thaw foods and cut vegetables into small pieces before cooking. They will take less time to cook and save energy.
